What should I do if I am subjected to online? The Director of Alkorra Foundation for Sustainable Development responds

In a digital age that dominates our daily lives, issues of online blackmail and harassment have become a visible and concerning part of our reality. This coincides with the evolution of technology, where communication methods through social networks have increased, providing new opportunities for individuals to connect, but at the same time creating a fertile environment for exploiting these platforms for blackmail and threats.

In this context, Dr. Manal Maher El-Gamiel, the General Director of Alkorra Foundation for Sustainable Development, clarifies through a phone interview on the program “A Man and Two Women,” the valuable guidelines and advice for viewers on how to deal with cases of online blackmail. This comes on the sidelines of the “Don’t Be Afraid… Speak Up” campaign implemented by Alkorra Foundation for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, aimed at raising awareness about this serious issue and providing support for victims.

Online blackmail is not just an individual problem; it is a societal challenge that requires a swift response and adequate awareness. Many individuals, especially young people, are subjected to online blackmail, which can cause them serious psychological and social harm. Therefore, the Director of Alkorra Foundation highlights the steps to be taken when facing this type of blackmail, starting from recognizing warning signs to how to report the offenders.

Dr. Manal emphasizes the importance of not being afraid and speaking out about these experiences, as silence can exacerbate the problem. Additionally, being open to support from friends and family, and seeking help from specialized entities, is crucial in confronting this danger. At the end of her talk, she stresses that the entire community is responsible for combating these phenomena and working to create a safe environment for everyone online.

In summary, this intervention serves as an important knowledge window that helps recipients understand the reality of online blackmail and provides them with the necessary tools to confront it, reflecting the vital role that educational and social institutions play in raising community awareness and equipping individuals with the knowledge and information needed for their protection.
